Bachmann's 2-6-2. based after the prototype or just figment of one's mind?

has anyone bought one of Bachmann’s 0-6-0’s or 2-6-2’s and if so how well do they run and are they worth buying? also is the 2-6-2 actually based after a specific type of 2-6-2? i know how some manufacturers have produced steam locomotives that are not based on any known protypical steam locomotive. how well does the front couple on the two steam locomotives work when coupling onto cars? do they work well?

I have no personal experience with them, but I think they are supposidly a USRA 0-6-0. The 2-6-2 is the USRA engine with a pony and trailing truck to pass as another locomotive for Bachmann to sell.

There were 2-6-2s, not many in the USA, butr there were. They were mostly used as branchline locomotives. Bachmann’s 2-6-2 is their USRA 0-6-0 (which I have and runs quite well, IMO) with leading and trailing trucks attatched, so their 2-6-2 is fake.

I have the 2-6-2 and found that it barely ran out of the box. A little trouble shooting revealed some bad electrical connections and now it just runs terrible. It just waddles down the track after a jackrabbit start (you can almost hear the announcer saying “And they’re off!”). At least it sits as high as a scale monster truck (maybe its a monster 2-6-2?!). Mine is about a decade old so I don’t know if they have made improvements or not (I hope so!).

Oh, and it is a ghost engine (no known prototype).

I bought mine as one of my first locomotives and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

If you want a fine steam engine in Nscale for a good price ($50 or so) go to www.trainworld.com and pick up the MDC 2-6-0. It’s a little older prototype but it is a superb runner (so is the MDC 2-8-0 for that matter).

Sorry,I don’t mean to rain on your parade, just callin’ the kettle black!

Only Bachmann has that model. ’

I bought one for my grand-nephew a few years back as part of a Bachmann train set. I should have known better. It makes a pretty fair coffee-grinder (sounds like one, too.)
