Bachmann's Overland Limited Set

I am considering getting the Bachmann Overland Limited set. Does anybody have this set? Can anybody give me information from a model railroader’s point of view? I will greatly appriciate any information.

It is a toy train set, not a model railroad set. The locomotive is not like any Union Pacific steam locomotive, it actually Bachmann’s NYC Niagara, with the smoke lifters removed.

Much better set are “The Explorer” and “The Frontiersman”, both come with Bachmann’s excellent Spectrum 2-8-0.

I to have this set, Although the NYC boiler is a recent switch. The one I have came with a Santa Fe Boiler with UP details applied. Mine runs pretty well, But I had problems with binding on the 18" Radius Curves. Loco is best run on 22" Radius or better.

I’m considering this set also. It’s on my Christmas list. I’ve never had a smoking engine before and it looks quite fun. The Explorer and the Frontiersman look good as well.

I got this set about 6 years ago at Wal-Mart for about $80.00. It is a TOY set definitely, but sometimes you have to start somewhere. I have since found the engine would not handle a 2% grade with more than 5 - 50’ cars. If you get this set, coupler conversions would be required unless they (Bachmann) have replaced the X2F couplers by now. If you are out to build a little railroad world of your own, save up and get the better “more prototypical” stuff as this set would be out of place in general.

Now the have E-Z mate couplers. Why doesn’t every one switch to Kadee and save us some money!
