Back at it again after a long break...caution: large pics

This is my first post in a while…life has a way of distracting you from your goals at times [;)]

After almost 4 years in storage, the N-O&NW is back in a garage again after a move to our new place. The patio layout came with us as well, and we now have two layouts out there.

The first thing I discovered was that being built against a wall, the patio layout will not stay still after I put the casters on it. It wants to fall backward when you fold it down, so I came up with the idea of anchoring it against the N-O&NW when it’s not in use to the underside of the layout when it’s in the folded position; but that’s another project down the road. They nest together very well when they are both not in use which is a good thing seeing as space in the garage is at a premium right now…

Just like every time the layout has been moved to storage, there was considerable damage that needs to be repaired, but the fiberglass portions that were repaired last time held up quite well. some of the scenery looks like the Tunguska blast of 1908 in Siberia…lol

Before it went into storage this time, I had just completed my dual mode setup and wiring, minus the programming track, which I can’t wait to finish and test out. I found a System One (predecessor of NCE) on E-Bay for a good price and built the two units into the table. I have DPDT center off switches controlling the two power supplies so it’s either DCC or DC. The yellow wires hanging down in the picture are going to the programming track on the control panel. The third switch controls the actuator that operates the control panel.

It is nice to see you back, Bob. I am happy you are returning to ‘active duty’, 'cuz activity in this hobby’s a must! [:D]

It is also great to learn that your move was successful and that your layouts are in relatively good order.

Crandell

Hi Crandell…good to see a familiar face again. I see you have a project of your own going on that I need to catch up on [:)]

It looks like Sundays are turning into train days around here after all the “honey-do’s” of the week. Today found my youngest conductor and I cleaning wheels on all of the locos and trying out the DCC system.

Seems like there’s a glitch in the System One; it kept jumping to programming mode for some reason, so we stuck with the old steadfast DC side for our session. While I fiddled with the System One, Emily was busy painting the new fencing for the livestock yard.

I also found my remotor job from an old CD-ROM that I never finished. I had to re-pin the drive gear in the tower as the pin mysteriously disappeared. The motor still needs to be mounted down, but it runs very nice…I hope to finish it by next weekend.

We didn’t get any pictures today, but I’ll have some more soon…
