O took a few days and took off to go see some friends in family that live on the other side of the state. While I was there I got more Items from my friend Mike who unfortunatly has to tear down his model railroad because of a move. (From a 6 bedroom house with full basement to a one bedroom apartment) Because his new model railroad is about a hundred times smaller than the one he was building, he is going through his collection and deciding which items he wants to keep. He is then giving the rest to me. From this last visit I came back with the following.
Nearly 100 feet of Atlas Code 83 track
Several Atlas Layout wiring accessories.
Walthers Packing plant, and Stock yard.
Nearly 75 feet of road bed
Assorted scenery supplies
15 freight cars. Mostly Athearn.
Proto 2000 PA/PB set in D&RGW
Athearn ABA F7 in D&RGW
Spectrum Light 4-8-2 Undecorated.
While I was there, I made a trip to Rapid City SD and visited Who;s Hobby House. I made a perview of their clearance rack and let me tell you when I got done. They were really happy with me. Of their clearence rack I picked up:
2 Proto 2000 GP9s in Union Pacific
2 Proto 2000 GP18s in Burlington Northern
A Proto 2000 GP30 in Burlington Northern
A Proto 2000 SD60M in Burlington Northern Santa Fe
An Athearn SD9 in Union Pacific
An Athearn U30C in Southern Pacific
An Athearn FM Trainmaster in Southern Pacific
An Athearn SD45 in Southern Pacific
An Ateharn Dash 9-44CW in Southern Pacific
and an Athearn AC4400CW in Chicago and Northwestern.
Total Spent $710. and some change.
The UP stuff will be repainted GN most likely. the SP will probably be BN, BNSF, Frelanced name as appropriet. the CNW unit. Undecided, but if it gets the paint shop BNSF.
Mikes D&RGW stuff will probably stay that way unilt the paint falls off. Then I will consider what to repaint from there.
yea u got some good deals i bet the wife wasnt 2 happy about the bill though whos hobbies has pretty reasinible train idems i was on vacation last year to the area and picked up a few engines from there they have a decent selection
Unfortunatly I am still single. [V]I have terrible luck with girlfriends, First one was way imature for her age. [:(] (Like She is a Sophmore in High School and Pokeman is the greatest thing since the advent of animated cartoons. Then breaking up with me when I proved to her that my model trains can do way more than her cardboard picichu or what ever any day of the week.) The second one was a paranoid schitsophrenic. [:0]So after I got her the help she needed and back on a level keel, she pulled the “Thanks for everything but I don’t think we should see each other any more routine.” Then the last one, I must not have been ambitious eneugh for her because all I knew she was gone on Vacation to see her mom. then a few weeks later I get a letter from her that she was staying and was with another guy.[%-)] And she is a fellow model railroader to. Shame. And all I want is a Nice place to live, a nice girl to make love to, and a REALLY REALLY BIG train layout. Is that to much to ask for? [banghead]
Maybe I should place a personal add on the forum, “WANTED! 21 year old male with interest in Model Trains, seeks like minded female between ages of 18 and 30. Send picture of train collection to reply.” [:D][:D][:D]
You’re 21 and have had three girlfriends. I think in time you’ll find the right woman(note not girl) for you. Enjoy the time and remember the advice my father gave me:
Get your house, car and dog before you get married while you can make the decision without “help”. Afterall those things are harder to change after they’re done.
If you have the right house with the right room or building for your trains then you’re two steps ahead.
James- We received a poster here at the police department with a description of a bandit that got a great deal at a SD hobby shop, it had a security cam picture on it but all we could make out was the SMILE!!![:D][:D][:D][;)]
As for girls, DT’s dad was a sage and wise man. Good advice, the important things in life are best gotten without a committee’s help.
Enjoy your loot!
Exactly. Stay single as long as you can, too. I had been single until 1999…I married, and am happy, but my Model Railroading has hit a snag. More time spent on little league games…family get-togethers…etc., Some days I think about the good ole’ days when I could go out and spend $500 or so on trains. Those were some great days.
Incidently, I too am back from a vacation to Anaheim Ca. While out there, I visited Bakersfield, San Diego, and Hollywood. I did get to drop in at Allied Model Trains in Culver City, CA. They have some great stuff there, and I bought a few things. They had undec Athearn GP50’s (Blue Box) there, and I snared one. 6 years ago, I would have probably done the saem thing that Big Sky Blue did, as there were a couple of brass pieces there that I had eye-balled. But, budgetary constraints and a limited need prevented such a purchase this time.
However I have one small problem, goes something like this. 70 Locomotives, roughly 500 cars!!! 4X6 layout with an 18" by 8’ yard off to one side. With 18 inch radius curves to boot.
Oh well as soon as I get out of college, I hope to be able to rectify that.
