Back issues of MRR

I was pretty interested in the virginian build so i was looking into the layout. was able to purchase the jan. and march 2012 issues of MRR but they wont let me buy the Feb. 2012 with the track plan and other info. im a subscriber to the magizine so what gives??? is it because it contains the important info on the layout, which dosnt make sense because the track plan is in the data base. I would love to give kakalmbach some money, but i guess they dont whant it…[banghead]

If it’s a hard copy, they may simply be out. Try a used magazine dealer. If it’s an e-copy, not sure, but a call to customer service should fix it, as I’d imagine it’s only a busted link or something.

Thats the thing, theres not even a link, not on the actual Kalmbach store, and on this site, it says to either subscribe(which i do) or add digital (to the subscription i assume). on every other issue it has a link to buy. Im guessing if it was a broken link, it would redirect somewere. I don’t know.

You know, I find posts of this nature troubling. You make it sound like there is a conspiracy. I presume that you are looking at this page, http://www.kalmbachstore.com/modeltrains-railroading-model-railroading-magazines-model-railroader-magazine-back-issues-2000-prese.html#top, where the issue in question is not shown. If that page is to be believed, the issue is not available.

There is a big difference between not available and “they don’t want” your money.

However, to be certain that it isn’t just a case of something being omitted, why don’t you make a call to Kalmbach customer service and ask?

The February issue focuses on the benchwork, has the lumber list and basic info on the cookie cutter top. It has a few good photos that you can refer to (but these can be suplemented elsewhere). The track layout is in the march issue, however there is a better version on line with feeder locations here:

http://mrr.trains.com/how-to/build-model-railroad/2011/11/build-the-virginian-a-4x8-with-more

You can also use the videos linked above to help. As an extra resource the Viginian thread has many photos of the benchwork. So if you cant get the February issue you can work around it with a combination of the thread and the videos to see how they did the benchwork and where to do the cookie cutter. Its a basic 48 layout built with 41’s.

As well as the Jan and March issues, you should probably get the April and May issues. But as others have said, call Kalmbach and see if they can do anything for you.

And this may be a book with the whole enchilada pretty soon, based on past experience. It’s sure not a conspriacy[alien]

I’m not so sure, Mike. I cannot get Kalmbach to sell me a copy of the August, 2014 issue. [8o|]
