Isn’t Scranton less that five and a half hours from Woodstock using I-91 and I-84?
Incidentally there’s a better ‘canyon’ on the north side of 84 on the way across from the Hudson to Scranton…

You should have said “Yes ma’'m, I sure do need to be saved - from YOU and your unwelcome attempt at evangelizing.” That always worked on commuter scoots to the Loop when I was young.
The problem with Detroit-Woodstock is it’s too long to comfortably make it in one day, but not by much. That’s why we looked at two areas that were near halfway and seemed interesting. We picked the Finger Lakes and the GCofPA. That way, we have too comfortably short days.
Near the west end of the Finger Lakes is Letchworth State Park, the “Grand Canyon of the East.” The rail attraction is the new NS arch bridge over the Genesee Gorge. When I was there years ago traffic thru the park was one way so you might need to pick your entrance.
“Annoying Pedant Alert!”
Keep in mind that what is normally referred to as “The Grand Canyon” is more accurately called the Grand Canyon of the Colorado. The canyon downstream of the falls on the Yellowstone river is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
Any chance that we can get a re-birth of the Master Room? IIRC a Drawing Room with a shower.
Everytime that happens to me, for some reason that Sammy Davis Jr song…“The Candyman” starts playing in the back of my head. I have to say though I am religious myself and I still have my faith. I had a good friend in the Army with me, spoke with him last about 2-3 years ago. He let it slip he was an Athiest in the Army (he was responsible for security for the Pershing Nuke Site…lol). He got injured and could no longer stay in the Infantry so the Army saw to it that he got reclassified as the Chaplain’s assistant. The other thing of course is he was born on December 25th…lol. Too funny, kind of like a Boy Named Sue. I should be careful as he reads Trains as well or used to. He grew up next to the Milwaukee Road Tacoma Hill line with the F-Unit Helpers.
