Back to the Future

What happened to the locomotive used to pu***he DeLorean up to 88 mph in the movie BACK TO THE FUTURE? Also what kind is it?

N.D.

In 1992 I visited Universal Studios in Florida and they had a display of that particular engine inside their themepark. Whether it was the actual one used in the movie or a replica, I have forgotten. It is hard to say where it is now since that movie series has aged quite a bit now.

The locomotive used in the movie still operates on the Sierra Railroad in California.

I thought the loco was destroyed when it went over the edge of the gorge?

Hollywood studio effects I’m sure. After all, did you really think that the producers of “Silver Streak” actually crashed a real train into the station? All “smoke and mirrors”. ( and a lot of flubs that us railfans caught right away).

I’m sure the train that crashed was a model built for the purpose.
