I did some searches to try to find an article about this to post here, but I couldn’t find any, so I’ll just have to post what I heard on the radio.
Near the town of Dafoe, Sask., a 34-year-old truck driver tried to beat a train to a crossing and (surprise surprise) lost. The truck was aparently carrying groceries. The train, a CP freight with 3 locomotives, hit the truck and a huge fire started. The specific cause wasn’t mentioned, but I imagine that the truck’s fuel tank was hit. The blaze was so big that it could be seen miles away. The locomotives and some of the cars derailed and the first two engines were destroyed by the fire. CP estimates the total damage caused by the accident to be at $10 million. Miraculously, no one was killed or even seriously injured! The truck driver is being charged.
I hope they throw the book at this idiot! Here’s yet another example of why it’s dumb to try to beat a train the crossing.
