South of Detroit yesterday there were 2 train/vehicle collisions about a mile apart within 45 minutes of each other. The second collision was evidently a truck driver trying to get around the grade crossing closure caused by the first. A picture in the Detroit News this morning shows NS 9038 sitting behind the crumpled remains of a truck. The driver of that truck was killed. The driver of the second truck (gravel hauler) suffered minor injuries. One of the police officials on hand at the second accident said drivers often don’t check for trains at that grade crossing because there are now lights or bells. ??? DON’T check for a train because there are NO lights or bells. There’s some logic for you. Unfortunate for all concerned…
