How would you ballast aristo-craft G scale track which is laid on 2x6 pressure treated lumber?
Exactly the same way any outdoor track should be ballasted. Use crusher fines, or as a possible alternative use crushed shells. The operative word here is “CRUSHED”. Any crushed material is going to have sharp edges, which allow it to “lock itself into place” without using glues. Fine pebbles, used by some, has round edges which allow it to roll around.
If your layout is not very large, Medium Chicken Grit is great. Reason I reference the size is grit cost about $7 a 50 pound bag where I live, so to do a large layout cost a bit more than just ordering some #8 limestone from your local supplier.

And don’t forget to secure the ballast.

Secure it with what??
Probably a diluted glue.
