Stephen, Thank you for your glowing endorsement.
As you stated we have sold out of the B&O painted version of the Canstock boxcar but we still have some early Chessie, late Chessie as well as the CSX painted versions. If you wish to have one of these cars please do not wait long to get yours.
Ken
The first product this small firm designed itself, the HO B&O Canstock boxcar reviewed months ago by MR, is truly gorgeous and has sold out. I ordered one of the wagontop cabeese as soon as I heard about it.
This type of caboose was unique to and ubiquitous on the B&O. I saw dozens of them riding from Baltimore to St. Louis, mostly on the National Limited, back in 1963. And caboose models are considerably less expensive than comparably detailed locomotives!
I am not a B&O modeler, nor do I regard myself as a collector – except that we all tend to be collectors of some sort – but these cabooses have always intrigued me and I may well end up buying one for display. I guess I better not wait too long however - I was unaware that those can stock cars were sold out.
Correction: Spring Mills Depot has informed me that although the Canstock cars in the original B&O paint scheme are sold out, they still do have ones in the Chessie System and CSX schemes they wore for many years available.
The Tomahawk, Wi based MTW railroad had one of these cabooses. Pictures of it can be found on the net at rrpicturearchives.net under fallen flags then MTW then MTW 82.
There is probably no design so associated with any railroad as the wagontop design of the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. This caboose is a welcomed addition for anyone who loves the B&O and given the quality of the Canstock Car offered by Spring Mill Depot, I am sure we will not be disappointed by this offering. I can’t wait for delivery!
