It is going to take 3 years plus to institute transit service where 3 (sac northern, santa fe, OK bnsf, and SP, OK up) run side-by-side from Port Chicago, BART calls it Pittsburg Bay Point, to beyond Pittsburg, then 2 ’
lines to Antioch and beyond, with the UP line inert.
And using “diesel trains.”
How radical and revolutionary!
Crossing dangerous technological borders, those…boondogglers.
A struck thought me (innocent, clumsy… let it go):: maybe they are trying to have Diesel locomotives pull the EMU BART trains to the Antioch Terminal. Turn and be shoved back to the 3rd rail tracks at Pittsburg Bay Point station.
That ain’t that complicated.
Ask LIRR about rescuing MU’s with steam and diesel locomotives…
I drove highway 4 east past Baypoint to Oakley on July 4th. It is currently a construction site, but it looks like BART or eBART has space for right of way in the center median.
Francis, e-BART will be standard gauge diesel multiple units. Remember, regular BART is broad gauge. The current cars cannot run on e-BART because they are the wrong gauge.
James, thank you for the reminder and info that I failed to acquire about e-BART…the standard gauge V. BART gauge bit.
Way-back-disclosure: As a hostler in West Oakland we waited for the passenger yard job to pull the remnant of the “Streamliner” thru the car washer at the mouth of the Trans-Bay Tubes, ( then washed the engine and took it to the West Oak’ Diesel Shop) (Ii walked a quarter mile into the Tubes before there was any of the BART gauge track in it . I rode BART on Day 1.
An argument could be made for building e-BART to BART gauge and doing what i guessed was their plan.
Based on that , watch and listen to my best attempt at a Jack Benny impersonation:
“…WELL?..”
Me: Why not?.
