Would basrelief be a reasonable way to go from the modeled scenery to a flat backdrop? I’ve seen stacked flats used but never a gradual change from the full 3-dimensional to the flat. I’m thinking of something like some of the shadow box scenes with their 3-D effect. My particular problem is for a practical way to continue a road surface into the backdrop. Any ideas?

I have expermented with this using various plaster type concoctions. My artistry is bad, but the idea seems good.
Arthill Thanks for the reply and the pics. I’m really impressed with the rock work and masonry and the white pines were exceptional. Oh heck, it was all first rate. Were some of the rock cliffs part of the backdrop? I couldn’t pick out any transition. Inspite of your claim, I can’t see anything wrong with your artistry at all.
