Baton Rouge - New Orleans Train

This may fit better in transit, but I’ll put it here.

$20 million approved for land acquisition and new stations in certain locations.

“The Baton Rouge to New Orleans rail project envisions twice daily trips with stops at stations in Baton Rouge’s downtown and health district, Gonzales, LaPlace, Louis Armstrong International Airport and the Union Passenger Terminal in New Orleans, with further connections to other Amtrak destinations.”

Edit: Ok, ignore this post. I missed seeing it in the Trains news. Sorry about that.

TO: York 1`… Possibly, not so much transit TOPIOC… As someone whonsed to do a fair amount of ntruck traveling in LA (Lower Louisiana !) BRLA to NOLA is far from a sceinc route. Two routes available to drive… Hwy US 61 , as well as La Hwy1… BR to NO is pretty much ‘petrochemical way’ . Hwy 1 is mostly, ‘Louisiana rural’.
Currently, for rail, it is KCS-CP(?) RR (nee:Kansas City Southern RR ). Used to be a couple of thru- trains a day, some Industrial switch jpobs and the occasional ICRR job…

Tracks usedtorunright thru downtown Baton Rouge. Since there is existing ROW, and possibly not a lot of heavy rail traffic; would seem to be a no-brainer, to add some passing trackage, and maight re-signal route, and improve crossing protct

LA Hwy 1 DOES NOT connect to New Orleans, and it’s closest approach to Baton Rouge is across the Mississippi River.

I think the biggest attraction of this would be the station at the New Orleans airport. For traffic coming in, the train would go directly downtown, with streetcar connections to the convention center or French Quarter.

With that, I have no idea if there is a great amount of traffic from Baton Rouge to the airport. I would imagine there is.
