What’s the traffic through the the pass these days? Is the east side through Banning double tracked?
Anybody even know where Beaumont hill is?
In southern California,on the SP main line between Colton and Indio,on the Sunset route.
Technically the line is not double tracked. I say technically, because back when SP banished steam for diesels they connected a number of the siding for quasi-double track operation. The same operating pattern has continued into present operations.
I’ve not been there of late, but I have no reason to doubt the place is jumping.
The correct term, as used by the SP is “two main tracks”. Two main tracks have signalling both ways on each track; double track has signalling just one way on each track.
The entire Sunset is being double tracked (“two main tracks” in SP parlance) by the UP. But at the rate they are doing the job, it is going to take quite a while.
Beaumont is reported to be operating at capacity.
