Before I start painting the backdrop

I read Jacon12’s helpful guide on backdrops. His adivce helped me feel more confident in tackling this project on my 2ft high masonite backdrop. I plan to roll on blue-ish white latex interior paint for the sky. Then following Jacon12’s suggestion, outline the hills w/ chalk. Should I make the hills only 2-4 in from the bottom? What type of paint to use for them? I thought a shade of flat latex green and mix in some cheap craft paint to get different shades. Lastly, I will paint on trees following Jacon 12’s suggestions–using cheap craft paint.

There are many was to paint a backdrop, so I am seeking suggestions first. I am trying to go for low-cost and efficient. Your suggestions will help me avoid getting frustrated and ensure I avoid making multiple trips to the craft and hardware stores.

TIA!

Set up some cardboard flats and have away at them to develop what works for you. Your suppositions are largely right on the money, so just practise until you know you’re ready to tackle the real thing. It’s what most of us do.

I also used the cheap $2 shop latex (acrylic) paint so I can wipe off my first attempts, which is probably a good thing looking at this

The sea looks a bit better, it was sprayed on with a can of cheap auto paint. Ship is a computer print. I’m going to add some bushes to hide the join.

Here’s an overview of the backdrops, The mountains will look better if I flatten them a bit and I’ll stick to 2 colours with more white as they get father away.
