the model is painted and decaled. I think there is a clear coat on it i bought it used and want to weather it a bit. should i wash or soak the model to do a good job in dish soap? rambo1…
If you are weathering with paint, you want to wash the model’s surface to insure that the paint sticks. A second hand model has surely been handled and needs finger prints and oil and grease washed off. Hot soapy water and an old tooth brush work well. Do this only on models that can withstand water (brass and plastic). Wood and cardstock models are not waterproof.
got it man rambo1…
David’s definitely right about washing the model before weathering. Also, if you’re going to use self-adhesive chalks instead of paint for weathering, I’d suggest giving the model an overspray of Dullcote or some kind of ‘flat’ finish–this gives the chalks something to ‘grip’ while bring used to weather the model.
