Beginner for O Scale trains(Lionel)

Hello fellow train operators!!! Im a Medically Retired Army Veteran so I got time on my hands for hobbies and I’ve always wanted a train set since I was a kid I wanted the Lionel Badlands set.

Low n be behold my cousin, who bids on storage facilities that are up for auction, and doesn’t he come across and bring me an almost complete set still in the box, the Lionel Badlands 0-4-0 scale set!!! So that got everything started.

I bought the Pennsylvania Flyer set w/bluetooth and also bought the extra outer loop fastrack set, the railroad crossing and have other things coming, i just picked up the Santa Fe 500 passenger car with sky light roof and love it!

Honestly If I would have seen The Santa Fe Lionel set first for $429. I would have about that first. That’s gonna be my next purchase comma probably next month, But I really wanted an old fashioned steam engine and I am very happy with this train.

Now onto what i need help with. So the accessories plug on the train set itself is very cool, very easy, but my questions are as follows:

Number 1: I only see one plug. What happens when you want to plug more that one thing in?

Number 2: What do you do when you buy a bunch of led lights that come with bare wires? Now I know N scale and HO Scale Have little wire harness boards you can screw into the trains power transformer on the AC side, But what do you do with the newer style? How Do you wire these bare lights into what you want?

Number 3: I have the train hooked up through the Cab3 app(finally) And everything works fine. My question is, do I need a base? Or is that for people that don’t have wifi Cause.
Honestly, all it looks like is a freaking router but Amazon wants like $530 for this thing!!! That’s more than a dag-gone train set lol.

I’ve tried to do searches online but can never find can the answer im looking for for O-scale. Now I have a board. I have HO & N scale Trains and track and Transformers and all the accessories. Pretty much to go with them. My cousin brought me a bunch of stuff but I like O scale.

Before I had the Pennsylvania fire and I hooked up the badlands set. I didn’t realize that the little board. I hooked up to the the Lionel. Transformer was for N scale, And after I hooked up all the street lights for that little set. I hooked up like 6 lights and when I tried to hook up the seventh light. They all went out so it was too much for it. So that’s when I realized it wasn’t for O scale.

I know this is a lot to read, I’m going to have a bunch of pictures or however, many pictures that will allow me to upload so you guys can get an idea of what i’m talking about. Thanks for any tips/pointers that can help or anything you guys can assist me with.

(Oh I don’t need sarcastic people. I don’t need attitude and I don’t want it. Cause it’s not called for work. We’re all people here trying to get help. And I don’t need people going duh, or how stupid can you be?)

Because I’ve actually gotten those kind of responses from people…I’m a 52 year old Retired Army NCO, iont need nor want it lol.

Thank you guys for your help and your patience for reading all this And taking the time to answer my questions. I really appreciate it. You’ll have a bus day and be safe!!! Happy Training!!!

Welcome to the forum, SGTTempo8773!

This "General’ part of the forum has some readers, but you may have better luck getting answers by moving this to the ‘Classic Toy Trains’ category. There are a lot of Lionel users there.’

Good luck!

Welcome SGTTempo8773. I don’t think you’ll get many sarcastic responses here.

I had to do a little searching, not trusting my memory about the Badlands set, but I did correctly remember that it has a DC-powered loco, which will burn out if you apply AC power to it for more than an instant. It needs to run with its own power pack, which more closely resembles an HO or N scale pack than almost all other Lionel trains. Do you have its pack and its instructions?
