Bell and horn sound

What would be a good solution for adding the sound of an engine bell and diesel horn to a small layout (“U” shapes, point to point, shelf type) to enhance my “silent” diesel engines a little? Eventually, I am sure sound will be pretty common but for now I’d like a short-term soluton for my switchers. I want the option of sounding differing horn sounds (short and long) and simply the sound of an engine bell, for switching moves. Any ideas?

MRC has their sound station with these and other sounds. Comes with two small computer like speakers and contol unit that operates the sounds. I’ve used one on my pair of HO scale modules when at train shows. I put the speakers under the modules and behind the skirting and have the control unit next to my power pack. Trainworld was selling these for aroun $40.00, might be worth a look.

I use two Model Rectifier Corp. (MRC) Sound Station 312’s (#500-550). The speakers are installed beneath my train board at either end of my layout and the sounds are great - in my opinion.

There are two separate tones for diesel horns - I use one for freight and the other for passenger - love the effect. Lots of menu choices - steam too.

Another thing that’s neat for you to consider is employing “Background” sounds to complement your railroad.

Check out http://www.greenfrog.com

In the blank “Search” box on the left side of the page, type in Background Sounds and it will take you to the selections.

These are quality Tapes and DVD’s that offer a good variety of background sounds
(city, country, industrial, thunderstorm, etc,.). [:D]

Thanks for the input, guys! Does the Sound Station 312 allow programing for diferent combinations, e.g. - - 0 - for crossings?

Sound Station 312 is pre-programmed (if I understand your question …) with 18 different sounds available - most are “one at a time,” but some are not …

There is a realistic crossing bell sound as well.

Recommend you check it out with MRC or Walthers …
