Belt Railway begins using new slug power
Seen one of those sets come thru Columbus this evening on an east bound union pacific train. Looked pretty good passing by.
So are these basically a body-less power unit with remote controls only ? Cannot tell whether it has it’s own fuel supply, or whether it is fed from the mother unit.
reverse the weights of the units and 310 and 312 will also be SD40-3s
This is not a cow-calf configuration. A slug has no prime mover, and uses electrical current from the mother unit for its traction motors. The weight comes from concrete ballast. This way, a high-power locomotive can produce high traction at low speed.
