Anyone know of some good books I can look into regarding building good benchwork? Seeing all these pics on here I think the train bug has bitten me even harder than before. Seems like I need to get into carpentry and other trade skills.
All of the previous years I only had just layouts with no scenery at all, and that’s because I wasnt good at making any at the time. I sometimes still have my fears on tryin to make any good benchwork or scenery because I dont have the artist skill that lot of the others on this forum has.
Hi Chris ! Yes, there are some very good books on building benchwork. I don’t have mine anymore, but I think it was put out by Modelrailroader magazine, & you should be able to get it from your local hobby shop. It will show you open grid, L-girder type & cookie cutter benchwork & maybe some more now. Here is one of the best links, using the new foam board techniques by one of our forum members & when you get to the museum down the road, we can show you more under construction. Hope this helps ! http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8ZYtnLVwwwg
Send me an email (use the message feature of my profile) and give me your email address and I will send you an album of my layout addition construction. Might get some ideas from it.
Thanks for the link there John…some awesome pics indeed! I am planning a trip this weekend in Cleveland to see my dad, so a good chance I will be able to visit Tom (Spankybird) up there in Willoughby. As for the museum, would love to visit that too.
This might be the book csxt30 referred to: “How to Build Model Railroad Benchwork”, Linn H. Weestcott, Kalmbach Books. The photos and examples shown are for HO but everything can be used for O-gauge. I used the L-girt system for framing and it is strong and a lot lighter than using 2 X’s.
