Benchwork

I am taking a very unofficial survey to see if there is enough interest to market this - how many people would be interested in purchasing a benchwork “kit”? It would consist of aluminum extrusions cut to different lengths and would assemble with self tapping screws. Four or six feet long rails would be connected together with ‘joists’ of user-defined lengths; the joists could be designed to include easy attachment for risers for the roadbed. Should be very strong but lightweight; aimed for portability for shows &/or if you don’t have room for a permanent layout.
My thought is that the first obstacle to building a layout is all the carpentry involved. We have kits for cars, engines and buildings; why not for the benchwork?
What do you think?

Beyond glancing at their magazine ads, I’ve never paid much attention to Seivers Benchwork, but my impression is that their stuff comes in the form of a “kit.” They’ve been advertising for years, so they must be successful with their product.

I would say that there is probably room in the market for your idea.

Derek and Terry, I think both of you have wonderful ideas. In these times were alot of people WANT this ready to run or let’s speed this up so I have more time here, Well, you guys get the idea. I think there are markets for all types of servises and im time the both of you should do good. It always takes time to get the business rolling. Good luck to you’s…Jamie

Hi there!!!

I think your idea is a brilliant one. I personally love to make my own bench work because it makes me feel feel like I’m working with a blank canvass. It also lets you solve a lot of problems before they occur with regards wiring and modeling space.

But for those of us who don’t have the luxury of having the tools or the space or the time to build our own, then a benchwork kit would be a god send!!

I think that it is great that people like yourself are coming up with these innovative ideas and sharing them with all of us.

I am at the moment thinking of offering a airbrushing service to modellers. Offering to paint loco’s, kits, freight cars and passenger cars into any railroad scheme or design! I live in Australia and at the moment I don’t know of anyone here that offers this type of service!

So hopefully, I (like you) can make my mark in the hobby and help others.

Again your idea is great and so long as you keep your prices at a reasonable level you should have no problem selling your idea.

Good luck with it and if you would like to tell me more about it here is my address:

I’ve been modelling for 16 years now (most of my young life, I’m 25) so I would like to think that I know a bit about what people are looking for in model products and would love to help. So as we say down here in Australia “GIVE US A BELL SOMETIME!”

Make it affordable and they will come. horailfan

Thanks for your reply - I appreciate the encouragement. Good luck with your airbrushing service.
