Berea Ohio Trains 8/22/09

We went to Berea today so here’s what we saw go through Berea today, August 22, 2009.

Berea Trains 8/22/09 11:25AM – 12:40PM

  1. 11:27AM NS East Track 1 / NS Intermodal / Unknown # Cars – NS C44-9W #9703, NS C44-9W #9235 – 30-35 MPH.

  2. 11:32AM CSX West Track 1 / BNSF Freight / Q393 / 140 Cars – BNSF C44-9W #5451, BNSF C44-9W #4523, CSX GP38-2 #2786 – 30-35 MPH.

Also I wanted to add to my post, I caught a SF Warbonnet SD70MAC #8227 owned by BNSF. That was a huge shock because it it was on an NS Intermodal and not on a Coal Train or not on the CSX Main. What a surprise. Anybody else see this engine I’m talking about. Also, did NS 955 the OLS Car Passenger Special go through Berea this same day I was there, because if it did, I missed it? You can see what time I arrived and left Berea, so I probably missed it.

Does anybody know if the NS Office Car Special will come back through Berea on the day of the Berea Train Show in the first weekend of October of 2009, because last year in 2008 during the Berea Train show on that first Saturday of the train show, the Office Car Special came through on that Saturday around 2PM / 3PM?

I was in Berea the same day, rain and all. The OCS was scheduled for that day but was believed to be unoccupied. Many times when it goes through Cleveland its not uncommon for it to take the old NKP line to Bellevue, thus avoiding Berea. The NKP line has much less traffic and gets them to a facility to park for the night and service the train.

As to the OCS on the same day as the train show, just a fluke so don’t expect it this year.

Not a bad day in Berea, traffic wise, just rotten weather. Have to get use to the new look now that the new signals are in place.

The NS OCS should have passed through Berea at about 2 or 3 PM that day (8/22/09). I caught it in Beaver Falls PA at around 10 or 11 AM. It was unoccupied. And as for the BNSF 8227, that locomotive is an EMD SD75M, not an SD70MAC. These are almost all sidelined right now, in L.U.G.O. lines, waiting for the return of the economy.
