Does anyone use any other sources for used train stuff ???
Ebay is getting kinda outa control, just wondered if there were any other less-travelled venues.

Well Trainworld, MB Klien and Firsthobby get some of my money. But the best place of all to buy is at train shows. Train shows though are unpredictable, you can go in there looking for something but its likely you wont find it. I go in looking for good deals, and I always find at least a few.[:)]
I went to a train show
looking for a motor for my old ahm switcher
thay had nadda
but I did find proto 2000 boxcars for $5
deal
have you tried http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html

You’re right!!! Ebay is out of control. Train show’s have been my best bet for deals.[:D] My LHS also cuts me a deal once and awile.[tup]
Mark agree 100% on EBAY and the scams are getting real bad also.
Best prices I have found:
Scenery: Hobby Lobby http://www.hobbylobby.com/site3/weekly/coupons/2006week33.gif This ia not a good example but KEEP THE LINK. Got a lot of WS for 40% off.
Rolling Stock: Trainworld, Internet Hobbies and Walthers when they have a sale.
Favorite source: DCC Installs in Augusta Ga. For Digitrax, Hobby World Orange Park Florida, Always have a good sale going and Just Trains in Charleston S.C. lots of good prices and items.
I have had a lot of luck looking in newspapers and buying out estates and such. Just got 60 cars, 10 engines and 2 boxes of parts for $50.00. Mostley, Varney, Aristo Craft, Silver Streak, AHM and some Atherns.
Keep hunting!
Ebay is tough, but not totally useless. You just have to be patient. For example, I watched Heljan Roundhouses for months… I finally got one on an auction that ended on a Wednesday, for only $28. Similarly for a good Muir Models kit. Likewise, a new Rivarossi 2 truck heisler for $82 that I watched for 6-9 months until I bid seriously… You just need to have time… both to wait and to bid…
Overall, I agree… train shows rock… just hit or miss on what is there.

Be patient. you can get some great deals. I just saw a Atlas GE DASH 8-40C with sound and DCC go for $120. WOW[:O] What a deal.
Love ebay but you got to take your time, Got a case, ya a case, of spectrum 0-6-0’s at obout $120.00, little over $20.00 bucks an engine, got a 4-6-2 on ebay for $36.00 out the door, also I pay average of $12.00 for atlas rtr 36’ reefers. But like you said you can’t just go and get them, you have to wait for the right price. Still looking for Horseshoe Meadows, the old wood kit, and Evergreen Hills sawdust burner, been looking for years but like I said it has to be the right price and I know I will find it, just takes time. Forgot, got my katsumi 20 ton shay for $227.00, oh well can’t get a dirt cheap price on everything…
Well, I know that there are Yahoo Groups like HOYARDSALE, or HOswap. That’s where I get alot of my stuff from.

Trainworld has been offering the new Rivarossi Heislers for $79.95 for quite some time now. I got mine when they had a 10% off sale, cost me $72.00. Might be an idea to shop around too!

I agree with Brian. You have to be patient with eBay. It’s not teaming with deals like it used to be, but don’t count it out.
Train shows can be good too, but I’ve found them to be as hit or miss as eBay. Besides, trains shows are not 24/7 and constantly changing/turning over as eBay is. Online hobby shops are always the first place I look, if anything to get a price and sense of availability.
MB Klein (modeltrainstuff.com) is a great place to start.
