I’m looking for info or pics of a “BESLER 2 CAR TRAIN SET”. I’ve only seen a small pic of a brass model in an magizine that didn’t give any info on the prototype except that it had New Haven markings.[%-)]
This was a two car steam railcar set converted from a pair of standard arch roof suburban passenger cars. It used a high speed steam engine mounted on one truck fed from an oil fired water tube boiler carried inside one of the cars (no 9210). The other car, a control trailer was No 9211. They were converted in 1936. It is described and illustrated on pages 491 to 493 of the book “New Haven Power”. The cars had “shovel noses” like the contemporary Burlington “Zephyr” trains, but the cars otherwise retained the appearance of conventional coaches.
