Best fallen flag railroad company now owned by Union Pacific?

What is the best fallen flag railroad company that is now owned by Union Pacific? My personal favorite fallen flag railroad that is now owned by Union Pacific is the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

My favorite is Southern Pacific. But thats mostly because of SSW.

My favorite is SP.

SSW (Cotton Belt) is a railroad company you don’t hear too much of anymore, Southern Pacific is also a good railroad company, I used to be confused with the SLSF and the SSW railroads but I realized that the SLSF line was called Frisco and the SSW line was the Cotton Belt.

SP is a good railroad company, I had no idea about the SP/UP merger until a few years later and I was quite surprised.

Define “best” [?]

My favorite was CNW. Explain please what you mean by “best” [:o)][:p][:)]

I enjoyed a lot of the traffic that SP had in my area. The PCX trains operated between Los Angeles and Portland carried a lot of May Trucking Company trailers. The PTLAF was mostly a COFC-TOFC train that had manifest traffic on the head end that would Travel over Tehachapi and set out the manifest traffic on the coast siding. A lot of the trains that travelled over the old Saugas line from Bakersfield had helpers that would get cut out at Sylmar. On the coast a lot of trains would have pick ups and set outs at Gemco (Van Nuys).[:)]

As has been said – define ‘best’. In terms of overall operations, stability, and finances, in many ways the old Union Pacific was one of the best operations in the nation. It also had a very good (though by no means perfect – but what is?) route structure. In addition, it has demonstrated a committment to mainline steam, though Steve Lee and his merry men, second to none in the country. So I’ll go with Uncle Pete – no matter how much it drives me nuts in some other ways!

D&RGW Like one big family. Tops for scenery. Sharp operation. Good service for freight and passenger cuistomers. Their Northerns and 4-6-6-4’s looked good.

If you define “best” in terms of operations, finances, etc. I would cast my vote for the Missouri Pacific.

“Best” as in railfaning would have to be DRGW.

MP was probably the best overall operation, especially during the Jenks era. D&RGW would be second, a railroad in their situation would have to be a sharp operation just to survive.

First Place: Rio Grande!

Second Place: The “old” Union Pacific. Top notch railroad, all the way around, until the current management team took took over the helm a few years back.

  1. Southern Pacific

  2. the “old” Union Pacific

  3. Rio Grande/ Western Pacific

  4. MoPac/ Texas & Pacific

  5. C &NW

  6. MKT

I’m soooo tempted to make another CSX joke…

I meant to ask what is your favorite railroad company that is now owned by Union Pacific.

I mean “best” as in your favorite railroad company.

Did you see the railroad map of the MP on the May 2005 article for the Trains Magazine? I thought that it was really cool to see what town the MP tracks went through, I had no idea that the MP went to Pueblo, Colorado until recently.

  1. CNW Railway.
  2. MoPac.
  3. MKT.

All in their “TRUE” color. And not in this newer crap that UPRR has come up with.
