Best Magnet for Magnetic uncoupling?

What magnet Do You use that works great for uncoupling? Do You use a commercially available one or have You found one that works better? I want to use hidden ones but one I tried didn’t always pull the couplers apart. The one I had {gone with my last layout}. Was a Kadee magnet.

This recent thread might help…

The polarity of the coupler magnet makes a difference. Kadee magnets are made with the north and south along the long edges rather than at either end. All Electronics has some very powerful round magnets, and you can rotate these until they are in the correct orientation for your service.

LION takes apart old hard disk drives (so that he may destroy the platter and secure the data) He rescues the magnets which are also very powerful, but are of funny shapes. You could try one of these, but again, the orientation matters. LION would just leave a gap in the roadbed where the magnet will go, and then try different orientations until he got it right. He would then lock it in place with and hide under the ballast.

I have used both the Kadee and Bachmann under the track magnets with equal sucess.

I’ve just installed two under track Kadee uncouplers and they work very well, much much better than the Kadee uncouplers that are placed on top of the ties. The under track uncouplers cannot be seen once the ballasting is completed.

I’ve found that the “between-the-tracks” style didn’t separate the couplers far enough apart to work correctly, at least in n-scale.
