Joe & I did the Skyline after the NMRA National back in July last year. I’ll have to check out Riverfront Pizza. The view is great, the food at Skyline is an acquired taste. [8D]
I have eaten at the Cajon Mc Donald’s.My favorite Mc D’s is the one in Durango,Co. across from the train station[:D]!
Skyline Chili??? Hmmm, I’ve eaten at a Skyline in West Chester, OH with sort of a view of the tracks. The best thing one could say about their chili is that you’re not a all likely to forget that you ate it for some time to come.
Also, I wasn’t sure if I would survive coming home and telling my wife I had a “three way” at the Skyline for lunch. Only a skyline fan would get that one.
I don’t let my wife forget I ate Skyline also. I haven’t figured out why she rolls the window down halfway home after we have eaten there. lol
They actually have the Skyline commissary located somewhere in the West Chester OH area. Don’t know where, but the owner of the company I work for lives in West Chester and was telling me about it.

First off, I don’t think there is such a thing at a best McDs anywhere. IMHO, the chow there is akin to low grade dog food. That I wouldn’t feed to my dog. Period.
If you you are in the Cajon Pass area in socal, I suggest you check out the various In-n-Out Burger locations.
IIRC, there is one in Berdoo at I-15 exit to the depot, one in Hesperia and one in Barstow.
If you want McGarbage, go to the arches. If you want a serious buger cooked the way you want, go to In-n-Out. No question about it.

Burlington John
(missing In-n-Out here in Missouri)
There is one here in my town where you can view the UP while you eat. There is also a BK right next to the place. Man you can realy feel the power of those Trains as they go by.
Some trains definately do 70 through De Kalb. fun fun fun…
If you’re on Cajon and want to eat,you don’t have to go all the way into San Berdoo.Grab a burger,or other sandwich at Joes Cafe in Devore.Better food than Mc D’s and it is right next to the tracks[:D]!
ALL OF McDONALDS SUCK!
If you want QUALITY fast food, I nominate Burger King and Taco Bell.
Wonder if there are any that are trackside?
It’s all about Sonic or Jack in the Box.
I don’t think that I’ve ever seen anything (car, train, plane, etc) go through DeKalb at 70mph. I always thought that the UP slowed the freights through DeKalb because of the long angled crossing that goes through the intersection of Lincoln Hwy (Rt 38) and a side street in downtown DeKalb. Also, there’s the usual UP traffic jam of trains backed-up trying to get into Chicago area terminals that seems to slow everything down.
I’ve been to the McD’s in DeKalb a few times becasue it’s next door to the DeKalb depot.

I wont eat at McBungholes no matter how good the view is.

The difference between a Western Fast Food is a greeting and effort to help you, the eastern places… well no one has time or payroll budgeted for cleanup. =)
Not necessarily! I could tell you about the McDonalds in San Jose that told me they ran out of meat (huh???)… or the McDonalds near O’Hare airport that employed someone solely to hand stacks of napkins to customers during the lunch rush.
McDonald’s does suck, all fast food sucks, except for the ocassional quesidila at taco bell *** i love those things to good to resist i usually stop by taco bell get soem food then go down to the yard in emporia and sit on the back of the tailgate and watch trains
later

I had some crack head take my order at that McDonalds… you must have been mesmerized by the view of the tracks from the parking lot… I have also never been to that Chevron next door without someone asking for money for gas…
Oh, and that place in Devore changed hands, and a couple of the foamers that hang out next to it say it has gone down hill…
CNW used to restrict trains to 50 through DeKalb. UP eventually lifted that restriction, and there is no longer anything in the timetable specifically slowing trains down for the city.
However, for reasons cited above, it is unlikely that many, if any, trains will actually blow through DeKalb at 70. The only trains that equipment restrictions will allow to go that fast would be intermodals and auto trains, and traffic density onthe line will more often than not slow them down as well.
I was in DeKalb the day before yesterday and stopped at McD’s for a shake. The less said about the shake, the better–the parking lot has an obtrusive wooden fence trackside (you can’t watch trains from the car very well). Nothing came through in the few minutes I was there, but I encountered several trains along 38 between there and Elburn.
Even if there were a McDonald’s near one of my favorite train watching spots, I would never choose to eat there. I stopped at a McDonald’s out on W. 12th Street in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on the way out to our local HO scale club a few years ago and the high school aged girls who were busy working behind the counter were too busy to wait on me, and when I finally did get service it was the last time I would set foot in a McDonald’s store. They lost a customer and I will not do business with McDonald’s again. Never!!

Well if I were to stop patronizing a chain every time I got bad service then I would have no where to eat. All the chains have bad service at one time or another. What do you expect from low paid overworked employees.
Yes I was there the day before you. I met 2 other railfans there from Georgia as well. [:)]

I’ll bet a good number of you have been to the Mc D’s restaurant that is at the I-15 / Hwy 138 exit on Cajon Pass. I’d noticed it there, but had never stopped until yesterday. Sitting in the dining area, you have a huge, panoramic view of the shared trackage, just above Sullivan’s curve and the UP line above that. While ordering, waiting and eating, I saw 3 trains go by. Nice place for lunch.
