Bet you don't have one of these!

Well, not exactly, but many, many years ago while working as a construction engineer, I watched an underground sprinkler system installation crew unload and reload a backhoe from and onto a 2-1/2 ton flatbed truck the same way. Operator HAS to know what he/she is doing!

Have the basic machine, but not the cartopper outriggers.[8D] Somehow, I doubt that the drop sides on my 15-ton 4 wheel gons could support it…[oops] Of course, with drop sides, my MW crew doesn’t need it.[(-D]

It looks like the O-Scale shot has the “basic machine but not the cartopper outriggers.” He just has a standard backhoe hanging there.

Did someone forget to tell them that they could get the dirt out by just opening the hopper doors? lol Rutland Ray

I saw a pic of IIRC taconite pellets being unloaded that way - I think on the CNW - from an ore jenny with taconite extensions. Unfortunately it eventually crushed the car’s extensions and the practice was discontinued.

I used to watch a guy in Alvarado, Texas, do that! Can you imagine what it must be like to do that the FIRST time? I’m betting it was something like this, one day after work:

“Want another beer?”
“No, got to be heading home.”
“You know,” opening another beer, “I think I can get that up on top.”
“Get what?”
“My loader. Hold my beer, let’s find out.”
