Better Than Christmas.

So this past weekend two friends and I drove three and a half hours down to Moose Jaw to attend the Thunder Creek Model Railroad club’s train show. ( Yes Moose Jaw is a real place, Google it if you don’t believe me [(-D] ) Anyway, I was strolling along looking at one vendors wares and there it was! A limited edition Proto 1000 Montreal Locomotive Works RS10 in Canadian Pacific Maroon and gray scheme! [:|] I have had one in the action red multi-mark scheme for a couple of years now but I have wanted the maroon and gray scheme for a long time. Now I have one! Oh sure I bought some other stuff, but it all pales in comparison to my RS10. Only 288 of them were made and I have 2 now.

Oh ya, the rest of the show was awesome as well. It’s held in the Western Development Museum. The theme of the museum is the history of transportation. Quite a bit of railroad stuff in the museum as well. I would highly recommend attending next years show if you can. The guys from the Thunder Creek club did a great job.

Ahhhh, it is the little things in life that makes it works living isn’t it?

Isn’t it a goood feeling when you find “THAT” item? Glad you were able to.

Good that you enjoyed the rest of the show and location too. I have been to shows and found little new or things that I wanted, but had a good time anyhow. Just being around the people and items of the hobby give me a lift.

Have fun,

Richard

Yes we went to the railyard on Friday afternoon. An excellent opertunity to see some equipment. And to think my silly wife thought I should have taken her to the spa in Moose Jaw instead of taking my train crazy buddies to Canadian Pacific rail yard and th

Excellent find! That sort of thing makes your day every time you look at it.

I model the CP maroon and grey scheme as well, and I just scored an Intermountain F7B with sound to match the Intermountain FP7 I purchased a couple of years ago. I was very happy!

Hope you enjoy your new loco.

By the way - when you are 3 1/2 hours north of Moose Jaw do you need block heaters in your model trains too?[swg]

Dave

Congratulations on the find!

How do you know only 288 P1K RS10’s were made? Were did you find that production figure?

It’s right on the box. It says “Proto 1000 Series DX Limited Edition”. Mine are #62 and #135 of 288.

I have yet to find an Intermountain in the maroon and gray scheme. At the same show I picked up an Intermountain FP7 in the CN stripe scheme though.

And having to plug the locomotives in isn’t the bad part. It’s the scraping the frost off those little windows in the morning thats the real pain. [:D]

I have had some success finding what I want on eBay. There are risks. The CP maroon and grey FP7 was listed as DCC sound equipped but they didn’t mention that it was not a factory install. The decoder installation was sloppy but it was no big deal. I was able to clean it up and the loco runs and sounds great.

I found the F7B by using the eBay option that lets you set up an automatic search for things that you want. I had almost forgotten about it when the listing popped up in my e-mail.

Both the FP7 and F7B were purchased from Dan’s Train Depot. His listings are very thorough with lots of pictures (but again, either he didn’t mention the aftermarket DCC in the FP7, or I missed it, or maybe he didn’t take it apart to find out - who knows). He is a bit tricky in the way he prices things. He starts the listing with no minimum bid and lets the listing run for a week. That seems to get a lot of people bidding so the price can become unreasonable if you are not careful. The second CP F7B that he offered went for just $11.00 less than the manufacturer’s suggested retail. His shipping costs are very reasonable.

JD,

Shame on you. You could have dropped your wife off at the spa. Just think of the good shape she’d be in when you go back to the show next year.

Sssshhhh,

Richard
