BEWARE OF BAD EBAYU SELLER

BEWARE of the BAD Ebay seller who goes by the name of Clarencer2004. On Dec 16th I paid of a lot of items. Have NOT received them yet. Think he took the money and never intended to send them.

Umm… Its only been 11 business days (18 calendar days if you include the 5 weekend days and 2 holidays).

  1. Have you tried to contact him ?
  2. From where is he shipping ? (Greater distances means longer shipping times. If he’s in Colorado, he or the package is probably buried under 6ft of snow.)
  3. How is he shipping it ? (FedEx, UPS, mail, carrier pigeon ?)
  4. How did you pay for it ? (If you paid by cheque, he may have waited for the cheque to clear before shipping.)

With the Christmas mail rush, its likely to have been delayed. If you have a tracking number, you should be able to find out where it is.

Unfortunately, because it costs nothing, every single even slightly ticked off customer now loves to post to “watch out for so and so”. We do not know any facts, so the information is totally useless. Note, posters’ claims are not facts. Worse yet, is a lot of these type posts appear to be by spoiled semi-literate children. I wish the board hosts would purge them all.

Be patient. December & January are the busiest months for shipping. I’ve had to wait between 2 weeks and one month to receive items I had won from sellers with good feedback records. On my last win, after 2 weeks, I e-mailed the seller in northern Ohio asking him the reason for the delay. Didn’t get a response until one week later. He apologized stating that a severe snowstorm toppled a tree into his house 2 weeks earlier. Nevertheless, my item arrived a week later.

If you’ve e-mailed the seller already, then take the next step and contact ebay. It is a bit frustrating but as has been stated: Ebay is the world’s largest flea market. Things don’t always go ultra smoothly. If your seller has a 100% feedback rating, then he/she will likely try hard to come through for you, but consider that “stuff happens” to sellers and delays occur for one reason or another…

If this person has a poor or mediocre feedback rating, then avoid dealing with him or her in the future.

Unless it’s something very hard to comeby that I really want, I only buy from sellers with 100% feedback records. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s a reasonably safe rule of thumb to go by.

Is this the seller you are referring to? http://myworld.ebay.com/clarencer2004/ He states you ignored his payment instructions and paid by personal check.

The auction clearly states: “PLEASE NOTE: I accept in payment ONLY Paypal, or USPS or CANADA postal money orders. Anything else will be returned; send cash at your risk. I ship promptly, but Paypal funds must be in my bank account before shipment. No returns, buyer must respond to invoice within 3 days, payment required within 7 days.”

Sounds like he is waiting for your check to clear. Did he ever cash it?

LOLOL, what a surprise eh. The “OTHER SIDE” of the story 99% of the time ends up being the truth. Shame on you IGOLDBERG for bashing a person that clearly didn’t deserve it.

I think that the coin can fall both ways, I buy and sell on ebay, I had an auction I was selling end on a Friday night (Australia) to an American address, it was paid by PayPal as offered as a manner of payment, and payment was made promptly.

I posted the package on the following Monday (no service available over the weekend), Tuesday I received an email requesting the whereabouts of the package as it hadn’t arrived yet, I contacted the buyer and explained that the parcel was posetd at the first opportunity, next day another email, I again responded and suggested that seeing as how there was a substantial distance for the item to travel, that a little patience would be a virtue.

It was almost a daily request as to the parcels whereabouts, which arrived about seven days later (which I consider pretty efficient), I had requested the purchaser to let me know when it arrived, which he did.

The short of it is, don’t expect complete miracles from either direction, distance is fraught with perils and there is quite often a good reason for a delay, make sure and check the conditions for purchasing, don’t get wrapped up in the excitement of successfully making a purchase and expect it on your doorstep the next day, it does happen, but some ebayers advise that they only ship on a certain day, or only accept payment in certain ways.

Too many people jump the gun and bad mouth before knowing all the facts, on the other hand, there are also crooks on both sides, so its buyer “AND” seller beware.

There are plenty of losers, crooks and sociopaths on eBay. Remember the $1200 Athearn SD 45 looney? How about the professional weathering guy, who later confessed that it was his first attempt? Sometimes a rock needs to be lifted to watch these cockroaches scurry.

OTOH, if the guy has a good feedback record and it clearly is not his fault, why should he be hung and quartered here?

I think that anyone complaining about eBay should provide a link to the auction in question. Then everyone can see the issue and possibly help resolve or give some advice. If the guy in question is a bad apple we can avoid them.

I also find it interesting that the buyer has a worse feedback rating than the seller.

This same post (albeit with better spelling) already got shut down on Atlas. I wonder how many other boards will be plagued with this irresponsible post.

This eBay business is SERIOUSLY getting out of hand.

I think this is turning into a witch hunt. Posting eBay tips or anonymous problems is one thing; slandering specific eBay sellers because of impatience or even a personal grudge (really, how are we to know?) is quite another. I think this naming of names has to stop.

There are times when naming names is beneficial to other buyers. Otherwise, I agree that identifying a seller by name is something to be avoided.

I think we are learning that, in this case, the seller hasn’t done anything wrong. Eleven (or 18) days is not an excessively long time, considering that the Christmas/New Year holidays are included in that time frame. It seems that someone jumped the gun on “reporting” this seller.

In the future, I’d rather see posts that identify real problems with a buyer or seller. I wonder if “buyer’s remorse” is the real problem behind this report?

It works in theory, but if we allow people to create threads condemning eBay sellers, it’s going to be anarchy. People with nothing more than an axe to grind are going to start naming names, just to hurt the competition or reputation of someone they’re having a feud with. Ebay buyers and sellers can become very contentious, even vindictive, and allowing that to spill onto this forum sets a dangerous precedent. People asking for tips or advice, or even pointing out something humorous occasionally is one matter, but if someone has a legitimate gripe with a particular seller they should let eBay and/or PayPal resolve the matter through proper channels.
