Any guess on when it will leave Pomona early Sunday morning?
Looking at Google Map the distance between Covina and Pomona Fairplex appears to be about 8 miles. As this is a big move in the dark of night I would anticipate they’ll be moving at a snails pace (lets say 8 mph average) my wild guess is they’ll start about 2:00am in order to reach Covina at the advertised arrival time of 3:00am.
Thanks Jim for making all the arrangements for us too view this event live and having Steve Sweeney on site. It would be nice to have a follow up summery video, I not sure I can stay up all night anymore-but I will give it a Big Boy try.
Silverton, OR
Is there any chance you will be able to allow users of this website to view the video of the move later? Much as I would like to be up for the move, I’m quite certain at 1AM Central time I will be sound asleep…
It was a beautiful site seeing 4014 on the move to Colton, CA. Hopefully I’ll be able to see it when it comes to Cheyenne, WY for restoration. With only 5 in existence, history lives on and it’s value to history cannot be measured. Whenever it is scheduled to appear in anyone’s town, a visit should be a must. Thanks for the streaming.
I am stoked got my boiler at full pressure bring it on . A special thanks to all involved in bringing this chance to view such an awesome happening
I enjoyed watching the video from eleven to three o’clock in the morning. My comfortable chair was better than those faithful hundreds who had to stand all that time. An emotional moment!. Thank you!!
Thanks to Union Pacific for the “romantic” choice of bringing 4014 back to life and to Trains Magazine for enabling us to enjoy this historic event with such great coverage…
I want to clairify where the viewing on 4014 will be in the Colton yards… Per the UP website:
The public is invited to view Big Boy No. 4014 in Colton yard on February 1-2, and 8-9, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All visitors should access the rail yard at 19100 Slover Ave., Bloomington, Calif. Visitors will be permitted in the display area for No. 4014 only. There will be no other rail yard access.
I tried to go to 19100 Slover in Colton and ended up at the GATX termial and a gravel pit.
