Big Boy: On the Road to Restoration
It was a very interesting dvd.
This would be a DVD I would like to get at some point. I always have been fascinated by these type of locomotives and I have seen one of them up close and personal in Scranton, PA at the Steamtown National Historic Site. This DVD would be a great addition to quite a few of the railroad DVDs I have in my collection make that growing collection of railroad DVDs. I am sure I will have a great time watching this DVD and I got to watch it in January of this year at the Utica and Mohawk Valley Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society’s monthly meeting.
This is a great DVD. It was great to see what they had to do to move the 4014. I hope they will go a step farther and show the restoration process.
Great video, well worth it, especially for the in service big boy footage. Only issue i had was at the part where they were going over the locomotive parts before the move, the camera stayed focused on one point while the explanations were given.
I have seen a similar loco at Steamtown in Vt., where another Big Boy was displayed quite a long time ago, back in the 1970’s, I know this loco has been relocated to Scranton, Pa. This is an impressive locomotive for it’s size. I look forward to seeing further updates of it’s restoration and return to steam, I have the photos of a 4-8-8-4’s interior and it could be extremely difficult to figure out what all the many red handle valves they control to run this locomotive on the road. Do you want to explain each red handle valve? What they control? I sure hope we don’t loose these impressive locomotives in the future!
loved the dvd especially seeing the inside of the boilers and all the work that went into transporting to a main line to get to cheyenne wyoming.
