I was thinking about buying one of these. I saw several on Ebay for around $170.00 with Quantium Sound and DCC. Are these quiet? Is the sound great? It would be the SP AC6000 pictured below.

I have the CSX unit, not too bad looking, not as bad as others had stated. It does not sound like a GE though.I think if I bought another it would be the no sound version.Maybe if they took some of the turbo whine out of it it would sound better.Reminds me of a GP38 in notch 8.If the price was right I would buy another. The details look ok.A little thick in some areas. All in all a good model of an uncommon prototype.Better than the BLI SD40-2 but definately not an Atlas.Dan
I also have the CSX version and love it. Its not as well detailed as say, Kato, Atlas or P2K. Doesnt run quite as well either, but overall its a great loco. dancarm may be right about the sound being wrong, but I wouldnt know since I have never heard a real AC6000 or GP38.
edit:
There was a wiring problem on mine, but I got one of the first ones and they may have fixed it. On mine only 1 speaker was working. I emailed BLI and they said to reverse the wires on the one of the speakers (cant remember which one). It was an easy fix and definantly improved the sound.
Yes i have four of the big B tards.
The only thing that really bother me about mine, is the coupler height is too high, has any one seen this problem [banghead]
Yes I had the height problem also.I used a Kadee 22 to fix this.It has a lowered head and works fine now.Dan
I’ve seen one in action down at the club, dispite its detail problems it sure has a deep bassy sound, as it should.
From the one I saw in action, I was dissapointed. It has two headlight lenses, but only has one bulb, and believe me you can tell, it just doesn’t look right. The ditchlights are also very dim. The detail did not look as good as a Kato AC4400, and the sound sounded more like an EMD. The good thing was the horn, though. Deep, chilling, and reverberating.
I think the AC6000 may have been made for the Kadee drop-down couplers. With the offset shank copuler, the height is perfect. I agree with Jonathon that the lighting could use some work. I usually install pretty bright lights in my locos so when I run “at night” (room lights off) the track ahead is lit up.
