Big derailment 120 miles east of Buffalo

About 2 hours before leaving work I heard this…but I cannot find out anytning yet. I know they derailed on a bridge and also derailing hazmats. Closing both main lines.

As soon as anyone knows more, please let me know, I would love to see photos of this mess. Hope no one is hurt.

I hope the hazmat cars were not breached.

Larry, isn’t that close to your territory?
Would like to hear something on this one.
Hope there were no injuries.

Agree with junction fan on this.

I don’t know if any one knew but Confederate Southern Xpress is under investigation by the STB for lack of track maintenance again. I heard this from a trainmaster who works out of SYRACUSE.

I would be suprised, seems like CSX is wrecking trains on the Chicago Line (or whatever CSX calls it now) a few times a year.

State Police are investigating a train derailment that happened in Herkimer County.

Police said about 30 cars went off the tracks along the Erie Canal in the Town of Schuyler. All of the cars are empty but, at one time they were carrying Sodium Hydroxide so there is residue of the substance in the cars. Hazmat crews were called in as a precaution.

Scott Lane Fire Chief, Town of Schuyler, said,“We did not evacuate any more of an area, than the canal and the railroad. Actually there is few homes within this area, so it’s in a rare…an area where people are not living.”

The train had a total of 120 cars. No one was injured and police are still trying to determine what caused the derailment

From a friend near the scene:

The Utica TV2 News showed a mess of wrecked tank cars and empty

Lumber cars, a few gondolas loaded with steel products. The train
was a west bound and it happened in Schuyler about 3 miles east of
CP235 near the bridge over the Barge Canal & Lock. Hazmet teams
called in but most hazard cars were empty. Selkirk Disp talking to a
Q269 which must have been near the scene. East bound CN train Q620
was stopped at CP 235. Detours are possiable

Which chemicals were spilled?

You should read the reports. There was no spill reported.

Glad to hear it.

Anyone know where they are detouring trains?

Glad to hear no injuries and nothing spilled!
