Having ridden their train one weekend five or six years ago, the Big South Fork offers an interesting excursion and interpretive displays of what life was like in mountain coal camps. The opportunity to perhaps make this trip behind steam… in the tracks of the 4501 so to speak… is exciting.
The headline and first sentance needs to be corrected, the name of the railroad is incorrect.
I second your comments. Years ago I drove one of the diesels on the K & T briefly (all of 20 minutes but drive it I did). I also rode behind #77 on the Cumberland Falls RR. There it had far too much power for the tiny radii scenic line. It’s far too nice an engine to languish as it did–it was built for hauling heavy freight and the road on the old K & T is perfect for it. Way to go
I, too, got to drive one of BSFSR Alco S-2s. Those Alsos pushing the train up the grade make a great sound. It is a gem of an operation and I am looking forward to steam on the line.
