Tried something tonight, but it didn’t really work to well…
Thought I would try controlling to BIG engines in a lash-up. (The new Big Boy 4012, and the scale Cab-Forward 4094.) Tried it with the Legacy controller, which was very easy. However, when I started them, the whole system went down. To much power draw??
Then started each engine seperatly (not attached together), and actually had them moving, but then when I switched to the Lash-Up, same thing system died. My assumption is that with that many motors it was to much current draw.
OR do you think it was because one was Legacy and the other TMCC??
Don - Did you have any passenger cars on the same power feed that might have overloaded the circuit? If you have two separate loops/blocks with different power feeds/circuits try them running at the same time in parrallel as separate engines and also as lashups.
Roger,
They were the only two items on the track. I did start both of them up individually and ran them following each other on the same track. I have a meter on the new ZW xformer, the amp meter didn’t go above 2 amps. I also have 10 amp ckt, bkr and fuse in line but they didn’t blow. Unless the ckt bkr in the TIU caused it to go down. The only other question is rather or not their is a issue trying to mix Legacy and TMCC in a lash-up.
Thanks for the input.
Don,
Thats an odd one to figuire out, unless it overloaded the Legacy unit. I would check with Lionel on that issue and see what they say is the power draw for the Legacy system. Sounds like you are blowing an internal circuit breaker some where in the Legacy unit.
Lee F.
Lets see now: I had the other day running off of one Post War ZW [as they were all on the same inner mainline getting ready to go to the storage track]:
2 Atlas SD40’s and 1 Dummy with lights and smoke unit going = 4 motors + some
3 Lionel SD80’s and one dummy with light and smoke unit going = 6 motors + some
3 Lionel SD40-2 which = 4 motors
1 Lionel Big Boy
That is 15 can motors, sounds and more on one Post War ZW feeding through a quick acting circuit breaker, through one TIU channel onto the one inner mainline and being run by Legacy Remote. All ran well and now problems. Amp meter was showing it was pulling close to 10 amps.
Think you got something “amiss”.
