Big milestone for my first layout!

Hi, all,

It took a few months of working on it a few hours at a time, but I’m finally at the point where I can actually start putting some track down! I just finished giving the plywood surface a coat of earth-colored paint today, and was so happy that I just had to share with everyone. Next item on the agenda is to start laying down my cork roadbed.

After spending so long cutting, assembling, sanding, etc. the benchwork and surface, it’s nice to be able to start doing stuff that will actually let the trains run. Of course, I still need to build legs for my layout [:p], but I can do that pretty much anytime.

FYI - the track plan is one of those crazy Atlas spaghetti bowl types. Not very realistic, but it lets me have all the stuff I like in a small space - continuous loops, bridges and crossovers, double-tracks, and tunnels through mountains (not built yet, obviously).

Cheers, and have a great day!

Looks like you’ve planned ahead river, bridges etc, have fun!!

Congrats, Dan![tup] I too am slowly creeping along, one day at a time, on my garage layout. Sometimes I find myself asking “Is all this really worth it?” Talking about in places like this reminds me that, Yes it IS![^]

Yes, it’s something you definitely need patience for! All the long hours of planning and getting everything “just right” will pay off big time, though. I didn’t want to get it all completed, then think to myself, “You know, I should have done this or that during the early stages.”

Nice job!! It looks like the layout will be lots of fun to operate. Keep up the effort!!
{ …how I wish I had room for one…sniff sniff…Now I’m going to have to go to the club house and run trains…}

Hey, godo job. Big Step. Thats a great feeling. Glad you shared it!
