BIG PROBLEMS WITH NEW ZW

I got back into hobby after 40 years off. Had set when I was ten. Went a bit crazy and bought a lot of stuff . Part of the stuff is new zw with two 180 watt bricks and legacy remote system.Have two tmcc locos and couple conventional but selling them.

All has been working pretty good until today. I was testing my new army missle loco to see how much it could pull. While testing I accidentally put a car on the track wrong and it shorted. The zw is hooked to track normally .I am not using any tpc.

The short shut off the zw but don’t think it tripped the 180 watt brick. When turned on the zw after the short the shorted channel ,A ,came on full power. The handle positon makes no difference. You can control the train with legacy remote still.

I tried repeatedly to turn the transformer on and off,no change. Full power still on Channel A. I tried the other channels on same track ,they all work normally.

I tried setting the transformer to TR1 and to TR0. Was running it at TR0 as don’t like to have to turn on track power from the legacy. And wanted the zw as safety to limit max power.

Some safety when it came on full power with lever at zero!! Lucky shut down brick when booted it up second time engine took off full speed. Non tmcc engine would have took off full speed on initial boot up! Lucky was running tmcc engine. They come up in neutral after running in tmcc last time they were run.

Tried the 5 flashing thing to set voltage and channel A is same. Turn on power, handle zero full track power.Legacy is not even connected or turned on.

Back to using my cw 80s for now.Opened case and saw nothing wrong. No burnt smell, loose wires, lever is turning the shaft in the potentiometer. EVerything appears fine but its like the pot is not even in the circuit. Guess send it back to lionel. No service center near me anyway.

So is this going to happen every time get a simple short from car on rails wrong or derailment?

My 180 bricks never tripped.

Did you read pages 19 or 12 of the owner’s manual? 19 explains the circuit breaker internal of the unit and 12 deals with processor reset. I don’t know if this will address your issue. You can also call tech support if it doesn’t.
