Big Train/Auto Accident at a Grade Crossing

Reported on ABCTV they said maybe 16 autos invovled. Some serious hurt but no deaths so far. [:(]

Any more info, photos maybe?

Sorry all the TV has reported is it occurred in the Chicago area & that the autos were waiting on the track for the traffic lite to change when the commuter train hit the cars. Supposely the crossing gates were operating OK.

At the risk of sounding like the grinch that stole Christmas (or Thanksgiving)

There are signs that say ‘don’t stop on the crossing’.

There is a law that says ‘do not block intersections’.

There is also a law that says ‘do not top or park on railroad crossings’.

I don’t get it. Darwin time.

Goes to prove that when god said come forth brains some came fifth[:(]

CNN.com had vidio and report on its web site, Looked bad.
Crossing gates, build them and they will drive around them.

Gee it look liked those folks really did catch the train, however not the way they would like to. The gates go down, Don’t go around!!!

Please see also another TRAINS post, “Metra vs Multiple Cars.”

The people just need to learn that if the lights are flashing/gates down or some other indicator is on, do not go across the tracks

Welllll…

Most of these cars were stuck at a red light, they didn’t go around the gates. They were lined up (or “queued” as they said in an Australian railway-safety ad) on the tracks, and had no place to go! They still shouldn’t have been there, although I’m sure none of them expected that a train would come through until after they were through the intersection. But they still should have heeded the Boy Scout motto, “Be prepared!!!”
