I received my latest flyer from Williams today and they are having a
huge sale on 0 - 27 trains, track , sets, and cars.

Just thought I’d let you guys know.

Spend that rich GM retirement. [;)] I’ll be watching for mine to come in the mail.

I will give them out to my Northern friends for Christmas.

Let’s see: S2 Turbine for $204, FA-2 AA for $182; freight cars for $25; cabeese: $29; GP7 and 3 streamlined cars for $182; 44 tonner for $94; GP9 AA for $182; NW-2 for $145; GP7 AA for $182; GP9 for $124; 3 streamlined cars for $145; and FA2 and 3 car set for $182…

I called them today to check on their Budd cars. The sale on those is over & only have C& O, and UP ones left . Chuck got the good ones !!

From my days in retail, I find the term “blow out” gets a little too much use for the wrong pricing. A blow out price is at least bare minimum 40% off list. 50-60% off list is more along the lines of a blow out. Anything less is simply a “sale” or a “reduction.”

Being those steamers at $204 sale price list for $250, that might qualify as a sale price, but hardly a blowout. $125-$150 for the same engine, now we’re talking blow out.

Does illustrate though that sales are slugglish across the spectrum. Williams (or anyone else) isn’t reducing prices unless they feel the need to do so. And I’d say as a general rule (with the increased cost of gas and home heating - nevermind the state of the train business) we will being seeing many more price reductions and blow outs.

Brianel027…Just exactly WHAT is your point ??

Chuck

I believe, though I could be mistaken, that the original title of this post included the words “blow out.” I never saw the Williams flyer so I do not know if that’s the word choice they used.

But I do know from experience with print advertising that advertisers like to use key words to attract attention, like “Big Savings,” “Free,” or “Buy One - Get One Free” or “Blow Out.” My point was that $204 for a $250 list engine is hardly a blow out. Though it certainly qualifies as a sale price, and for Williams products makes it an already better bargain. But I’ve noticed this before in ads where big headlines exclaiming one thing are not backed up with the actual fine print.

OH NO!!!..Williams got me on their last flyer for a set of 4 green Pennsylvania 2400 type cars for my Williams turbine. Hmm…I wonder if they have a set of FA2’s in Penna. Tucscan? [:D] Even if the flyer isn’t a complete “Blowout” the prices are a good value. $204.00 for the turbine is $25.00 less than last month’s price. [^]

Williams refers to it in their printed material as “O-27 Spectacular! All items 27% off.”

So I would say they’re being pretty upfront about it.

Nice prices on some very nice trains. And, you can spread the payments out over three months if you so desire (if you buy directly from Williams at the advertised prices).

Brian is a Williams hater.

Say it with me guys…

WILLIAMS BLOWOUT SALE

It sure is tempting but no room on the layout, display case is full and the shelves in the basement have no more room. What’s a guy to do?

I purchased a U-boat, GP-9 and SD-45 about a year or two ago at the Greenburg shows from Marty and from a vendor named Charles from somewhere in Pennsylvania.

Each cost anywhere from $125 to $135.

I’m completely happy with each and expect to run the heck out of them when my next layout is complete. They are real work horses, meaning they pull like Clydesdales and run like Stallions.

I’m a Platinum Club memeber and haven’t received any O-27 flyer. Better call 1-800-Williams and straighten them out!

Brian,

Please quit being so preachy!!!
