Biggest steam loco? CLOSED

I found that the 6-4-4-6 is 140’-0" and the N&W Jawn Henry C+C+C+C is 161’-1".

Happy Railroading.[swg][swg]

I have purposefully declined to even view this thread until now. I have witnessed a similar thread on Railroads, next door, and it ended up in a pissing contest, so I was quite sure this would end up in the same trash bin.

Not that it is a bad idea, mind you. It brings us together in a thread that is the closest thing to politics that we can legitimately discuss on this forum. (Hee, hee.)

Train 284, don’t sweat it. Every one of us gets his/her baptism of fire sooner or later on this forum, and you just had yours. Welcome to the “fold.”

The difficulty in any discussion about generalized adjectives (biggest, best, fastest, etc.) is that the first rule is always to set what is called the “operational definition” of the key terms. And, it is, as a rule, the duty of the author to do that. It is a courtesy and an expedient for those who wi***o engage so that the terms, themselves, don’t end up being the point of discussion, and not the intended focus…locomotives.

I am sorry it blew up in your face, but just like in chemistry sets, ya hafta know what yer doin’. [:D]

True, but the Jawn Henry wasn’t a steam locomotive in the classical sense. It was a steam turbine electric. [:D]

Aren’t you being a little thin-skinned? Why sweat it? The conversation was quite interesting, for the most part.[:D]
