Billboard Structures

Picked up a couple of the Miller Eng. signs and I need to find some drawings/ideas for structures to support them on the layout.

The “Roanoke Star” would be freestanding,

and the “Western Auto” would be a rooftop sign.

They would not be permanent additions, they would be set-up and taken back home at end of day.

Any ideas ?

Forgot to say, I could order the billboard supports from Miller but I was leaning more towards the older style wood framing.

The Western Auto sign would look at home on the roof of a brick and mortar strip mall and the star would look at home on the roof of a holly roller cathedral.

Doug,
For the rooftop sign I would highly recommend the Miller supports. The metal rooftop supports have been used for years and will provide much needed rigidity to the sign.

For wooden structures for the Star you could use a modified RR trestle with some back bracing.

Not sure I understand “taken home at the end of the day”? If they will be continually moved, I think the Miller supports may be too fragile. For my “show” modules, I use the Galaxy Drive-In sign (supports itself), and Stan’s Drive-In (I made a little plastic collar that slips down to the surface). By the way, the 2 photos you show have the signs mounted too high. The top of the “plug-in” should be level with the top of the ground or roof surface. If more support is needed, small peices of wood or plastic, held to the ground or roof surface with Mini-Hold Wax, will work. Joe
