I have a Broadway Limited Santa Fe 4-8-4. It will run fine for an undetermine amount of time and then just stop dead. Actually it isn’t dead the light is on and it is getting power. When I back it up, even just a quarter of an inch, and then go forward it will run fine again for a while. I have therefore assumed the wheels/drive gear is binding somehow. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so how was it corrected?
This seems to be happening when it is in a right hand corner. The radius of the curves are 36" or greater.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BroadwayLimited I have had the same problem with both my hudsons sent them back checked out fine, the one thing that helped my hudson was putting a shim under trailing truck ,i did this to put more weight on the front pilot, but they dont bind up like they did before in the turns. There has been alot of discussion about the 4-8-4 on the yahoo group BLI forum.Hopes this helps.
Send it back to BLI - I saw a similar one and the #3 driver actually ‘moved’ and was causing the bind. BLI swapped it out after a call…

Are you talking about the brass bearing on the axles moving out of position? I was tinkering with my BLI PRR J1 earlier today and discovered one of the bearing on the #3 drivers shifts inward. It won’t stay in it’s slotted position in the frame.
