Birthdays and trains....

Well, another birthday today and I’ve planned an all trains day…just a little running, working on the scenery and the latest scratchbuild of a warehouse for the city scene. I use to do it every year but I got away from it for some reason.

It just seemed like the thing to do until the party tonight. [(-D]

Same here, thats my present to myself peace n quiet in the train room cursing and swearing at some project. It it wasn’t so danged far away and and if I still wasn’t sore as hell from getting rid of all that white junk outside for the last two days we got here in the North East I would be up at the LHS looking to buy myself something even if I didn’t need it. At 50 I officially stopped having birthdays, a little known fact that once you hit half a century your allowed to count backwards. Just another day as far as I’m concerned.

My birthday is tomorrow, but I have to work so nothing until Christmas Day if the family will let me have the time.

Hi Guys,

How’s it feel to have a birthday so close to Christmas? Did/do you feel slighted in the gift department?

My sons’s birthday is Christmas Eve but we make it a special event with gifts, cake and the whole nine yards.

It does make it hectic that evening with so many activities being compressed into such a short time frame.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERRY CHRISTMAS, & A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Bob

My birthday was Dec 13th; My son took me to the Vikings game that day! My ‘life mate’ cooked a great meal the night before. I worked on trains the following Monday evening. And it does not bother me that my birthday and Christmas are close together. I usually asked my parents to ‘combine’ the presents(more ‘train’ stuff).

I’m the one who’s out of step here - my birthday is five months out of phase with Christmas…

The person I really sympathized with was a young lady who was born on February 29th. Imagine being handed a Baccalauriate Diploma at the ripe old age of five and a half…

Actually, I’ve asked people to forget my birthday. It just reminds me how young I used to be…

And for everyone here, birthday folks or not, have a Very Merry Christmas.

I always felt like I got the raw end of the stick because it’s so close to Christmas, but my oldest son was born on my 23’rd birthday, so it made up for all those “lean” years…

It’s been a great day…fixed a couple of boxcars and trucks, got to run some trains and work on my fruit packing house which I hope to finish tomorrow…

The girls are making my favorite dinner…Lasagna and a chocolate birthday cake with cherry filling. My son and his 2 daughters will be over for a slice as well…Hmmmm…life is grand sometimes, isn’t it?

I’m the 23rd as well. Because it’s so close to Christmas, it seems that I get presents over a handful of days. One friend might show up the day before my birthday so I get something then, then on my birthday, then Christmas eve we get to open a gift, then Christmas, then if we go to Grandma’s the next day… so it’s a week of gifts. It works for me. Also so it’s train related, I’ll usually get at least one train thing, so that’s nice.

November 2nd’s not too bad for me - there’s enough of a gap. But my partner’s birthday is December 31st.

And with regards to the woman born on the 29th of February, she can honestly say she’s the youngest person to have received a Bachelorette’s degree [:D]

Edit: With regards to getting train stuff, I’ve asked my friends and family not to - they don’t know enough to get stuff that fits my time/location/theme, or what the layout needs. I do accept gift vouchers, though.

My 2nd grade teacher, (coincidntally also a young lady) had the same setup. And we made the same jokes.

Actually, if you think about it, beng born on the 29th throws you a few days older than normal, because in a full year from the day you were born is March one, the calendar speeds up suddenly. But that isn’t as funny.

My Birthday is Christmas Eve as is My twin Brother’s… When We were Young Boys We sometimes would have to share Our Birthday present, And if times were really rough We would have the option of either a Christmas present or a Birthday present. Also if We opened Our Birthday present on Christmas Eve, Our siblings would open their Christmas presents. Which made it seem like Christmas instead of a Birthday. We quickly learned to wait till Christmas day to open our presents, Just to spite Our siblings…LoL…

Anyway Now We will be 51yrs Young this year. I know My Girlfriend has some Model Railroad goodies for Me…I have seen the Charles Ro Company bag around the house!!!

Even at 51 makes ya feel like a kid again!!! I can hardly wait!!!

Mine’s in March. I’ll find something for myself at my LHS, and let my wife wrap it if she wants.

The two of us got our Christmas present a day late 19 years ago, when our daughter was born on the morning of the 26th. She shares that birthday with her grandmother, 70 years apart. Both of them, incidentally, are still going strong at 19 and 89.

Mine is in March as well. It’s the same week as the Cobourg, Ontario Train Show so I always get to pick up something there.
