What sort of ratio India ink to water works

I’m no expert but 1:10 and 1:4 work for me.

Any ratio will probably work, it depends on how black you want things on the first pass. Make sure to use water soluable india ink if you can. Otherwise add some isopropyl alcohol to the mix.

…or just use india ink and alcohol, that way the solution will be “wet” and get into all the nooks and crannies better.

FWIW I prefer powdered charcoal - easy to work with, easy to remove some or all if you don’t like the result, and can be sealed in with flat finish (unlike say chalk weathering which dissolves.)
