I think that the real concern of the BLET is that the more the technology is able to be developed the closer we will be to having one person or even crewless trains. The use of Trip Optimizer on GE locomotives has lessened crew activity and combined with (reliable) PTC forms an auto-pilot situation. In many cases the conductor is not on the train but in charge of several trains from a remote location. How long before that is true of train operators?
