As much management and dead wood as the goverment
William, as a fifty year member of the BLE-BLET since the dark ages of railroad labour, the union has been the leader in slow but sure agreements that have rationalized rules which have increased productivity. The number of officers and district reps has for the first time in the history of the first union in the USA resulted in direct democratic member election of our leaders and not at all featherbeding at the top level. I am long retired but have lived long enough to see my vision of the future of railroading, which was scoffed by all in the 60’s come true beyond my wildest thoughts.
I work on the el the union screw us over good when conrail took over so I have little use for all the top people in unions
Mr. Dudko, could you please explain your last post. You “work on the el”. By “el” I assume you mean the NYC Transit Authority subways (which operate as els on some segments). Aren’t you represented by the Transport Workers Union (TWU)? The Conrail workers are/were represented by the BLE and the conductors and trainmen by the UTU. So how did a change in a Conrail agreement with its unions effect you?
Or do you work for Metro North or Long Island RR which are not the “el”?
el ERIE LACKAWANA???
Well that makes sense! Except if I was writing “Erie Lackawanna” I would have either spelled it out or at least written “EL” or “E-L”. Maybe having lived in Chicago for almost 40 years it’s understandable why lower-case"el" means only one thing. And it ain’t Erie-Lackawanna.
“el” certainly works for New York, and probably other municipalities, elevated transit lines.
Erie-Lackawana has gotta be “E-L.”
It seems to be that the Chicago transit elevated loop of track was called, and written, thusly: the “L.”
Whether that was railfanese language or common in Chicagoland, I haven’t the windiest idea.
In San Francisco, the "f(aw)ggyiest idea…
Around SF, fog is not f-ah-g but a soft “awe” instead of. “ah.”
Great job jim Louis
@William Dudko:: I worked as a New York City Transit Authority Subway Conductor in the 1980’s. We were represented by the TWU. I also worked on the els. However, we don’t have any pure els anymore . These lines are mostly become subways. We have never been represented by the UTU. or any other of today’s unions. However, there were other unions on the property in the early part of the 20th. century.
Erie Lackawanna sorry for a
Short cut
@William Dudko: I accept your apology. Happy Holiday!
