I would be delighted to see this in a hand held radio control as part of a wireless throttle assembly. Maybe I’m thinking too far ahead. If we could have all the advantage of sound without the expense and hassle of decoders and DCC (sorry DCC folks) then we’d be stepping in high cotton. That 'er’s a Louisiana expression. [^]

The description says that you wire this unit between existing DC transformer and the track, but in the picture, it looks like the unit is a power pack with a throttle. I wonder if someone could tell me whether I could wire this unit between my power pack controlled by an Aristocraft walk-around radio controller and my track. In other words, I wouldn’t want to have to take a step backward and use this stationary power pack in place of my walk-around.

The unit shown is stuck onto an MRC Tech II. I just found out Atlas is offering the same type thing. I do not know if will work with the radio stuff or not, but my guess for now would be no as far as the portability goes. You could probably use it wired in with your power supply and locate it somewhere.
This is really neat to my mind. I wonder how far we are from complete unit controllability with DC. The technology exists to tackle the last barrier, the holy grail of electrical powered modelling, the reversing loop. When someone releases that system, then we have made some real, honest to goodness, progress.
It’s a expanded form of their side kick(MSP $30.00) that I too have mounted on my power pack with velcro.
I guess there’s no stopping advancement in tech and then you have the Athearn sound remote.

They need a link to the Internet and a big button that says “UPGRADE FIRMWARE” to keep up with all their design changes and quality issues. And buttons for “RESET CONTROLLER” and “RESET DECODER”.
But I do like it and wi***hey had a similar one for DCC (my Digitrax Zephyr DCS-50 has tiny buttons and text).
If they add a feature to control the sounds from their cattle cars, they can rename the device after another sub-atomic particle, appropriately, the Muon (pronounced Moooo-on).
