BLI Blueline SD 40-2 Frustrating!!

Morning all,

I purchased a BLI Blueline SD 40-2 last year. I also got a digitrax decoder, I think its a DN 143. I’m using a MRC Prodigy Express. Now the fun begins. following the instructions in the book I lowered the sound volume and attempted to change the address from 03 to 7600. No luck. Reset the sound decoder numerous times but still could not change the address. I then inserted the Digitrax decoder. when I increased the throttle the sound would rev up but the loco would just sit there. Finally at around 45 on the Express display the loco would start to move. Of course by then the sound decoder is at high rpms. I downloaded a digitrax manual and tried to change different CV’s but to no avail. I scoured the internet for any help but was not able to find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

To fix this, follow this steps to the LETTER…

  1. Revome decoder and reinstall dummy plug.

  2. Place loco on DC track and follow instructions for RESETTING.

  3. Place loco on DCC track and confirm address=03

  4. Place DN143PS decoder into OTHER locomotive and reset on programming track by setting cv8=8.

  5. Confirm decoder address=03.

  6. Install decoder back into SD40-2

  7. Dial up 03 and confirm operation under 03 (sound and movement)…

  8. In OPs mode programming set number to be what you want.

  9. Confrim operation of locomotive under new address.

After I got home and read the instruction booklet, I found out that I cannot reset the sound decoder in the DC mode because I don’t have DCMaster. I did put my mobile decoder in another locomotive and it’s set on address 3, but won’t let me change it. I think when I was screwing around with the CV’s I may have done something to the decoder. The other problem could be my DCC system. I’ll have to mess around with it tonight to try to figure out what the problem is. Thanks for the help though.

Set CV 8 of the Digitrax decoder to 08. That will reset the decoder to it’s factory defaults.

I tried that several times with both the Blueline sound decoder and the digitrax decoder. Nothing seems to happen[banghead]. That’s why I’m going to attempt to change the address on one of my Atlas decoders to see if my Prodigy Express isn’t messed up. If nothing else works I may have to get my special DCC tool out (Ballpeen Hammer) and convert the loco to a dummy [(-D]
